About The Department

The department of Economics was started in the academic session 1958-59, when the college authority appointed Mrs. S P Jain from outside Assam as a teacher of economics. From 1960-61 academic years major classes were started. Since then many teachers were appointed and some of them are now retired. Among these retired teachers, late P R Neog, Mr. C K Gogoi, Mr. K. Saikia and Mr. B. Saikia contributed a lot to the department.

Learning Resources- Library and Smart Room

In addition to the college library, the department has its own library which contains more than three hundreds books and five journals. Most of the books are reference books which are quite essential for the students having major course. The department has its own computer and internet facility which is available for both students and teachers.Computer and LCD projector are used for teaching purpose in some special classes. Home assignment is given to the students frequently and teachers are available in the class room beyond normal class hours

College has accredited with "A" Grade by NAAC, and selected by UGC as Centre with Potential Excellence.Debraj Roy College came into being in the wake of independence of the country around 1949. In the post independence period here was a seething atmosphere of great joy and excitement all over the country and this tempo was also felt in an isolated and sleepy town at Golaghat.
