About The Department

Department of Philosophy is one of the initial departments of D.R. College which was established in 1949. The founder teacher of this department was Late Jadunath Saikia, a prominent lawyer of Golaghat who rendered his honorary service till 1951.Since then many well known philosophers had served the depatment. The first batch of Honours graduates were Anjali Devi, Sanjibani Sarma, Purnakanta Bora and Lokeswar Bora.

Learning Resources

The department has its own library besides the central library which is quite enriched with new and old books. The library has a collection of reference books and the text books for the benefit of the students. The department issues the necessary books to the students for a period of fifteen days. The students of the department show positive response to it. Moreover the department has a computer which is mainly used for maintaining the records of the department. Apart from the lecture method, the teachers of the department arrange seminar, group discussion etc.

Future Plan of Action

• Open a centre for Gandhian Peace Studies
• Compile a collection of articles on Contemporary Western Philosophy
• Compile a collection of articles on Contemporary Indian Philosophy
• Plan to publish a departmental journal

College has accredited with "A" Grade by NAAC, and selected by UGC as Centre with Potential Excellence.Debraj Roy College came into being in the wake of independence of the country around 1949. In the post independence period here was a seething atmosphere of great joy and excitement all over the country and this tempo was also felt in an isolated and sleepy town at Golaghat.
